Toto we're not in Kansas anymore!

Hello All!

I have decided to pick up blogging again as a way to keep all of you loved ones in the loop on my travels and experiences in Thailand. As many of you already know, we made it to Thailand! YAY. Today we had our first day of teaching orientation in Bangkok. We just got wifi on our computers today, but I want to backup a little and tell you about our journey here and our first day here in Thailand.

Seats and Tray Tables in their Upright Positions
For anyone who doesn't know, one of my best friends from college, Jill, decided to join me on this wild adventure to Thailand and we were lucky enough to be placed together in the Rayong province of Thailand. Rayong is about 2.5 hours southeast of Bangkok on the coast.

Here is where we will be!

Our flight consisted of 15.5 hours to Taipei, a one hour layover, and a 3 hour flight to Bangkok. We started the journey with some mean airport security guards who yelled at us for waving and then proceeded to lose one of my shoes.  Don't worry, I saved the kicks, but the gaurds weren't happy when I was bothering them from the end of the belt with, "Excuse me, excuse me, I only have one shoe and I put two in the tub". After our rounds with the airport security we headed to our gate.

We boarded the plane bright eyed and bushy tailed and our flight really wasn't that bad. Of all my travels on long flights, this one seemed to be the easiest, but maybe it was the fact that we boarded at 1am. Jill and I had decided that we would get seats together, but trade off for the window seat. While walking on to the plane we had agreed that I would have window the first half and Jill would have it the second half of the flight. Turned out the joke was on us, because neither of us had window seats. With both us in middle seats we figured trading seats wasn't necessary.

We arrived in Bangkok at 10am, exchanged our dollars in to Thai Baht, and then we started the adventure to find our group shuttle. Instructions from the company said to look for a man holding a sign that said Teach in Thailand. Of course this is Thailand, so the sign didn't read Teach in Thailand and the person holding the sign was a female. Naturally we didn't recognize this sign and we spent a bit of time searching BKK airport, but eventually we found the group. We had to wait about 30 minutes for the airport shuttle to arrive, so we took our puffy eyes and tired limbs to the airport cafeteria. We found ourselves the most authentic Thai meal we could......

Ok Ok not all that authentic!

The shuttle ride to the hotel was about 45 minutes, but the ride was far less hectic than I anticipated. That being said, I jinxed it by saying, "WOW, driving in this country isn't half as wild as in India," and then our taxi driver last night got as close to rear-ending every car on the road as he could. After living in LA for the last few months I have grown to HATE horns, as people tend to believe honking a horn in bummer to bummer traffic makes traffic disappear. After our little taxi ride last night, I remembered how important horns in cars actually are. The day was pretty uneventful, but we met two guys David and Matt. We took a mini adventure to the IT square to try and get Jill's iphone unlocked. We weren't the smartest adventurers and we forgot to bring the hotel address with us, but no worries friends, we ran in to David and Matt and they remembered to bring the hotel address. When we got back to the hotel we walked around a little bit and then called it a night around 7:30pm. We were old ladies, but we were in need of the 10 hours of sleep.

Alright, that's it for now! Miss and love you all soooo much!

Hugs from this side of the world!
